What are Gamakas ?  How many Gamakas are there? 

Gamakas are ornamentations that we give to make the swara sound more beautiful and varied.  It is a deliberate and conscious movement made to add to the aesthetics of our music. There are Panchadasa (that is 15 ) types of gamakas that we use.  Kampita, janta , jaru are some examples.
